U.S. ARMY CORP OF ENGINEERS

The Corp of Engineers is responsible for this 15th largest man-made lake in the United States. The lake was authorized by the 1946 River and Harbor Act and construction of the dam began in December, 1956. The project was completed in February, 1964 with President Lyndon B. Johnson at the dedication. The dam provides flood control, water supply, hydroelectric power and recreation. The waters from the North and South Canadian Rivers and the Deep Fork River flow into Lake Eufaula. The lake has a maximum depth of 87 feet and a mean depth of approximately 23 feet.
